Pre-MDS Hemi's (pre-06) use 5W30. Those with MDS (06+) use 5W20. I think (but don't quote me) all of the 4.7's use 5W30.

My 08 with the 4.7L calls for 5W30..

Mine is a 2003 4.7.Im trying to find out what the clacking is as well.Ive tried 0w30 and 5w30 and it still does it.Dealer said its normal.I call BS.I want to fix this but dont know what it is.

My 08 4.7 does the same chatter thing. I've been told it's "normal" too. I guess I won't sweat it since it's warranteed, but then again leaning on that might be detrimental reliance...

Ok, I didn't think anybody used that anymore. Almost all new engines use 5w20 or thinner. I never looked up the 4.7L in my manual

I just assumed my 4.7L took 5W30, as the two Dodge dealerships I've taken the truck too, use that grade as a standard. After checking the manual, it does state 5W20 only!!
