Im using an Amsoil Synthetic... 5 year/100K mile warranty. Only needs to be cleaned once a year by taking an air compressor to it. No oiling needed. It has been 6 months and still going strong.

How does the Amsoil compare to the k/N for performance? I would imagine that both are comparable to each other, but I like the idea of no oiling with the Amsoil.

Filtering ability wise the amsoil wins hands down...especially as the oil in the k&n dries up more and more dirt goes through. Flow wise an oil/cotton type will flow just as good if not slightly better when clean...i've owned both and prefer the amsoil filter. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaa.aspx

I've used K&N in all my gas jobs and liked what I've seen.

But this is only when the filter is clean and properly oiled. Depending on driving conditions, how often would you have to service the kn to keep proper air flow, vs the amsoil which seems to generate just as much air flow with little to no maintenance. I have always ran kn in my atv/motorcycle..I serviced them regularly and have always had very good results, so that is why I was leaning toward a kn at first, but after reading about the Amsoil I may have to give it a try.

I say "when clean" because most people don't service them when they're suppose to...but that goes for any filter. I'd clean the k&n at least every 10k miles...I do the amsoil every oil change so every 3.5k miles. I find myself cleaning the amsoil a lot more because it's so easy and free.
