upgrades = more noise??
Hello everyone. I have been reading alot on this forum and getting lots of good info.
I have a 2008 Hemi, 1500, completely stock, 3.92 gears, no lsd.
I have read that some good mods are CAI (pretty much any brand), exhaust, superchip (or others). But I have also read that even by adding a CAI it will make the truck louder, and especially adding an exhaust will make it louder.
Can I add any of these items and keep the noise level the same as it is now???
Even with the stock exhaust it kind of rumbles when you really get on it, but I wouldn't want to go much beyond that if possible.
Do I have any options or am I asking for too much?
Any info would help.
Thanks.

I forgot a question:
would you install these upgrades in order of 1) cai 2) exhaust 3) superchip? Does it matter?
I know you probably wouldn't do a superchip only (or could you), but what about a cai & superchip with no exhaust? or cai & superchip with a different muffler but not the entire exhaust?
Just something I was thinking about.

If I were you the CAI and catback exhaust would take priority, then do a programmer to get the most out of those mods. My reasoning is that with that large hemi engine you can get a lot better airflow than the stock setup with those mods and therefore get a nice bump in power. It doesn't have to be loud, but typically the CAI's do make more noise. If you want to keep it quiet maybe try a trueflow kit that uses the stock airbox and replaces the restrictive tube and hemihat. Also talk to an exhaust shop about getting a larger muffler to keep the sound down when you upgrade the exhaust.
the intake will only be louder at wot. i think there are some mufflers that are only a little louder than stock. also you can keep the resonator on to limit the noise. if you dont want the truck louder then i would suggest any exhaust bc all aftermarket are going to be louder than stock. u can add them to your truck in any order that you want. it doesnt really matter
If you don't want it louder, don't do a CAI, just do a good quality, aftermarket drop-in, like a K&N. Your exhaust can be louder or quieter than it is now, depending on your muffler choice, and make sure they leave the resonators.
I'd do the cat-back and drop-in first, then the programmer. A lot of people stop the modding process right there and are happy...

On my '06 1500 I stated with a CAI (K&N) noticed a little more response but not much extra noise however I could hear the MDS kick in and out if I didn't have the radio on.
A few months later I did a cat-back exhaust (flowmaster) and removed the resonators. I was able to feel a much better response and it was a lot louder and there is some drone in the cab when I'm cursing around 55 MPH. The MDS was very noticeable when it kicked on and off and started to get a little annoying.
I purchased the Superchips 3815 so that I can disable the MDS and get rid the annoying "Click" as well as get the extra performance out of it.
I would say start with the Intake and exhaust, then go for a programmer.

if you dont want too much cab noise when you do these upgrades, then just get some sound dampener and put it all around the inside of the cab. i heard dynamat was good and they do a lot to make it quieter

Most CAI's are going to be louder, at least the ones that remove the hemi hat. Aftermarket exhaust can be had in just about any tone you are looking for so you should be able to find something that suits your taste. As far as the order of purchasing the mods, I would personally go for the programmer first. I just like all the different things that you can tweek with a programmer as compared to an exhaust or intake where once it is installed that is basically it.
depending on what you want out of your truck I would just do the superchips. Just with the shift points alone the truck is much more fun to drive. If you are concerned about noise you may not like an aftermarket air intake. As said above, crusing around it bairly audible compaired to the stock set-up but at WOT there is quite a bit of noise. There are exhaust setups which are much more mellow than others such as Magnaflow and Gibson.
You guys are fast with responding. Thanks for the info.
I like the idea of just doing a drop in (k&n) instead of the entire cai.
How about the drop in with a programmer...is it worth while? noticable?
