Question tranny code 732 help

while towing, from a stopped position to start up, the engine reved high between 1st and 2nd gear, then seem to settle on 3rd gear. The check engine light came on, code PO 732 (gear ratio error in 2nd gear)... as well as code PO 700 (transmission control system). after unhooking my load the truck seemed to perform normally (albeit I didn't step on it from take off being 3 hrs from home).

anypoint me in the right direction on this? tranny going bad? does the PCM need a reflash due to a "power surge" on acceleration?.. this truck hasn't towed much

Pull the stick on the tranny fluid, look at it, smell it. Is it discolored, like brownish, does it smell burnt?
