Default Need some advice

So I'm looking at an 04 Ram 1500 reg. cab long bed slt V8 5.7 Liter HEMI 2wd with 91000 miles. They are starting at 8200. I was wanting to know how happy everyone has been with their Rams and what issues anybody has had. That way I can have my mechanic give her a good look. I've read that there may be some issues with the rotors and going through breaks. I gave up my Dakota QC a year ago and have been miserable ever since driving a small 2 door car, and finally talked the wife into letting me get a truck. Any advice I can get would be appreciated.

Best thing you can do is read through as many posts as you can, try to find ones by guys with similar mileage.
But basically with the '04s, pay close attention to the front end (rack and pinion, ball joints, etc.) also if it's got a factory LSD, the c-clips like to break, starting a chain of events that may end up grenading the rear end.
Naturally check the tranny well at close to 100k miles. If the engine was at least half a$$ maintained, it'll be the least of your worries by far. It's pretty much bulletproof.

I've got an '04, granted I just hit 40k miles and it's highly modified, but the ONLY issue I've had to date is a broken stock shock, before I did my lift, after a day of off-roading...

sounds good to me but does $8200 seem a little high for a reg cab with 90k on the meter. i think you can get a quad cab for that price. i think its an ok price but with economy like it is now, you can get it cheaper

Agreed, id shop around a bit for something a bit newer and maybe be willing to spend 4K more, (if you can). That just sounds a bit high for the clock reading at 90.

Im echoing these posts - its not a dodge but the Rubicon we run - its an 03 and it has almost if not hit 83k since last time I saw its Odometer - and I know that is a lil high - heck my cobalt just hit 43k. The price does seem a bit high for that truck - 7k sounds more decent - I just checked and private party here is selling simular for like 6-7k

The price is just their starting point. Its at a dealership so I know they will do the typical BS that dealerships do, and eventually drop the price. The worst part is that I pretty much bought this exact truck brand new in 04 and then later traded it in on a Dakota QC. If I would have just kept the damn thing it would be paid off and only have about half the miles.

That's exactly why I didn't mention the price. When you said "starting at" in your original post, it was obvious you knew what you were doing. Unlike my fellow posters, I gave you some credit...

Like everyone else says, thats a bit high. You should definitely shop around. You can get a quad cab for that much nowadays. You heard it here first.
