well, I say chain, I can't recall that it was, I only remember it had a metal hook that nailed him with enough force to kill him on the spot. I'm going to have to search and see if I can find that thread. Problem is, even if I take away the hunting/fishing/shooting/ATV forums, it still leaves about a dozen to search through. I have no life!!!

Found it, rather than link a possible rival site, I'll cut and paste just the post that started the thread here. It had been a couple years since I read it, so my facts were a bit off, but the gist is correct:

My best friend Died today at age of 37 Over a basic simple mistake!
We where at our truckwars/mudbog.

After he broke his front end he desided to still play in 2wd. I had
left and didn't see it happen but what happend was everyone got in a
hurry and lots of trucks stuck with dozers and 6" straps all over
the place ...
He
was an advacate of safety But we'll never know what went
through his head this time... But they broke the cardanal rule os
Hooking 2 (small) 3" straps together with a Clevis (wich is like a
rocket and what killed him)and David was unfortunate to have the
brand new strap on his Jeep (they where out of 6" straps that day so
he bought a 3") so when the strap let loose from the other Jeep
while he was turned around looking backwards being pulled out
from the back...The Clevis hit him in the head and killed him
instantly..
He was the nicest man I know and would do anything for anyone!
He was survived by his Wife and 5 yr old Son Both where there the
wife seen it happen the son still doesn't know and wont be told
untill tomorrow!

SO please use this as a warning and be more careful of using to
small of a strap while pulling out people..and try to never use a
Clevis in the middle but if you must, weigh it down with a blanket or at least a heavy coat..
David knew this but failed to do it this one time probley figureing
he wasn't stuck back and it would be ok and he paid for it with his
Life!

I only edited the guys name out and parts about donations since it's a three+ year old post...

Oh the price we pay to play...

Well, on the bright side, perhaps some peope have read this post and have now learned this lesson the easy way, and won't have to learn it the hard way out in the mud.

If this post stops a few people from making the mistake, maybe this post is actually saving a couple of lives.

Stay safe.

Hey there traker1001,
Do it!!!!! I pulled out a 20" stump with a taproot, 3', and a 24" stump, two trees joined. I have a 5.9L '02 QC. Just be careful and keep an eye on your rpms if you use 4-Lo. Dude you have a Hemi! Good luck.
