sand blasting
im about to start the process of painting my bumpers but to remove the chrome i want to sand blast them as opposed to trying to just sanding them with sand paper, will this gun work to get this job done aside from not holding enough sand to do the whole job is there anything else that would make it not work, i have a fairly large compresser (not sure size but everyone says it will be big enough)

I don't have personal experience sandblasting, but I think that should probably work fine. I don't think it really takes as much media as you'd think to remove the finish, but even if it does, you can simply reload. If you aren't going to do a lot of blasting, there's no point in buying an expensive setup. If this doesn't work, you're only out $16. Remember to wear protective gear when you are blasting though! Respirator, goggles, gloves at the minimum. Pro's have whole suits with air supply. On that note, have you checked into how much it would cost you to have it done professionally?

yeah i fiqured i could give it a shot but if someone was like that will never work then thats easier, they told me it will be like 80$ for each bumper to sand blast cause they cant fit into the hoods most of them have, yeah i already have my respirator and gloves/goggles, anyone know anything about what kind of blasting agent i should use, they have like fine medium synthetic materials or something like that, i wouldnt even know where to start

DO NOT BUY THAT SANDBLASTING GUN!!!
They suck and do not work. I have been sand blasting and powder coating for a long time as a hobby. I have a good air compressor with evaporators and all. I got that gun for a gift and let me tell you it does not work. Spend the extra money and get a pressurized one. That gun will never take the chrome off...

You could do a better job with a die grinder and a scotch brite disk. I am telling you its a poorly designed gun and the sand just barely runs out of it. You could spray that thing into the palm of your hand and hold it there until its outta sand and it will barley irritate your skin. Try that with a half descent sand blaster.

I own this one and I use it for allot of things that wont fit into my blast cabinet like paint and minor rust removal and I have to say it works pretty good. Its a little bit more money but a sand blaster has alot of uses and you can buy replacement parts for it anywhere.

IMHO I try and stay away from gravity fed blasters I feel the pressurized ones work allot better...
