Default is a spring compressor needed?

ill be installing a lift on my 2003 ram 2500. is a spring compressor really needed to remove the coil springs? it seems to me that lowering the front axle will take the load off the springs and they'll just come right out. is this correct or am i missing something?

Thanks!

After you unbolt the front end, and drop it to the ground, you will relieve a lot of energy in those coils, but not all of it. When I did the lift on my jeep, i unbolted and dropped, then used a full length 2x4 to pop the springs out. came out with a little shimmy. These trucks are a lot heavier though, and spring rate is much greater...dunno. I think it would be worth renting.

I know on the 2nd gen Rams the coils would literally fall out of the cups when you dropped the axles and unbolted the coil retainer.

you do NOT need a spring compresser. you just unbolt the swaybar, shocks, drag link and trac bar and lower the front axles and the springs and shocks will litterally fall out depending on ow stuck the shock is in the lower mount. I do alot of levelling kits along with alot of the bds longarm kit on these dodges and the leveling kits i am down to in an hour using those methods, by the way if you ever decide to go bigger i strongly suggest the bds longarm. unreal ride when its all down. a million times better than any of the compettitors lifts i have done and cant beat their warranty. the spring compressor you will rent will most likely be a little cheesy thing that you would use for a small car. dont waste your time,

here is a step by step.

while still sitting on the ground,
undo your upper shock bolts, strut tower bolts, trac bar, drag link, sway bar links, and brake lines from your diff to be safe,

jack up your truck from your diff as high as you can and support using jackstands on the frame of the truck,

take off tires, lower diff as low as you can, undo lower shock bolts and take the springs and shocks out as an assembly.

then reverse after your done your install

btw. i am assuming you arent using a hoist

Not responsible for any damage or personal injury occured(just to cover my ***, follow these proceedures and youll be fine, have fun)

Damn!!! I had my mind made up that I was going to put a 6" Tuff Country long arm lift on my truck. Now I go over to the BDS site and they make one that is comparable in price, and you cant beat the warranty(If it breaks they replace it no questions) Is the BDS system as adjustable as the TF lift as far as centering the wheel in the well? Have a look at this lift and tell me please . I know you will be bias but still.
