anytime .... How bad is yours leaking? If it isn't leaking too bad, you can try some radiator stop-leak. The pellets actually work pretty good. The OEM heater cores are welded and sometimes the seams can spring a leak. The stop-leak does a good job at fixing that. Mine had a large hole that was not fixable. The aftermarket cores are stamped - much better quality.

 

Leaking bad, to the point that Id have to carry a gallon of water to put in the radiator at least once a day. The passenger side floor was constantly soaked. Im just not looking forward to pulling the dash... I want someone else to do it for me but I dont have that kinda ka-ching...

 

i hears ya .... sounds like the stop leak is a no-go for you. Sorry man ... but at least you will have excellent heat and a dry interior when you are done!!

 

If you empty/open the system, you need to vacuum the system down to 29.92" vacuum. This boils all of the moisture out of the system. If not, icing can form in the expansion valve/orifice tube (depending on system) which will block the flow of refrigerant and put a lot of strain on the system.

the system can't be "purged". it must be vac'd first then charged. and trying to bleed the system's high side while running is dangerous and the best part is the system has oil in it which will go everywhere when aerosolized, no fun to clean up.
