Are yall talking about leaving it stock and adding a cutout or having a cutout with an aftermarket exhaust? Does a cutout do anything for the truck performance wise or does it just make it loud?

You can do it either way. I have the cutout in my cat back system but you could just add it to your stock exhaust and get the same effect. The cutout does add performance, my times are a little faster running with the cutout open.

While it does make it loud, and personally I think it sounds better than an aftermarket exhaust, I would assume that it has at least some performance benefits. A lot of people on here get Magnaflow’s instead of Flowmaster’s because they flow better. So it would make sense that a cutout would give a performance increase, since it would flow better having no restrictions.

I just checked out a few cutouts and they're pretty cool. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to keep that one in mind.

Are H / X pipes even considered "True Dual"? I thought each header had to have an independent exhaust. Good choice going with magnaflows!

True duals can use a H or X pipe. There is 2 headers, 2 mid pipes, a H or X, 2 mufflers ans 2 tail piped.
Single exhaust consist of a Y-pipe and a section with only 1 pipe, like a stock set-up.
Even a stock set-up with a dual cat-back is technically a single exhaust.

You won't loose too much torque leaving the cats on.
I don't think you will gain a whole lot by running the dual set-up and X or H pipe over just removing the crimped area of the oem Y-pipe, installing a nice unrestricted "Y" and running 3" pipe back to a good muffler like a Magnaflow and turn-down. Would save a lot of weight and money and get you the performance and sound that you expect.

Actually the more I think about the more I think I should wait until later and do a complete exhaust overhaul. I was gonna do this and then add headers later, but I'm thinking now I should save up and get it all done at once.

hey dodge boy theres a thread on here that a few days ago of someone here that shows how to run the true duals down either side and around the gas tank so you dont have to push both pipes down the passenger side.. And LXMAN what route are you looking for your magnaflow cause I got magnaflow cat back on my 08 but its just single, hooks up after the y-pipe, down the passenger side and single exit out the side.. When I was looking for it all the shops had a hard time cause for some reason it only listed 06 and 07 so I think I got the 07 kit but it fit on no problem.. I bought it like 6 months ago

That can depend on what kind of headers you get and if you can install them yourself. I think true duals with an H or X pipe and 2 1/2 piping would give you plenty of flow w/o losing exhaust velocity. Magnaflow has a simple little chart to guide exhaust setups for various engine sizes and HP ratings here http://www.magnaflow.com/wideopen/performdata.asp

16700 kit. Dual out the rear. Magnaflow told me that the Y pipe was differet in 08.
Dirtydog has a kit on his 08 too, so I guess I will try it when my money finally gets here.
