Air Springs as Ride Improvement Device?
I tow a 30 ft. travel trailer at 5100 lbs. dry weight with an Equalizer hitch. Properly set up, the hitch does a great job of weight distribution over both axles, and along with the other mods (Bilstein shocks, Hellwig rear anti-sway bar) the rig handles great.
I would like to insulate some of the feedback into the truck sent by the trailer after running over bumps however. You know...the jerks and bounces that make the ride more harsh than when not towing....
I'm wondering if air bags in the rear would help to tone down the bumpy ride when towing? The hitch equalizes weight distribution just fine, I'm only looking for ride comfort. I've searched the forum, but found nothing related to ride comfort from air bag installation.
Would air bags help? Anyone with specific experience they can share?

deffinitly....i have air bags in the rear of my 04 ram and it was a night and day difference in ride quality to me.....if you get it setup just right, it's like your not even driving a truck.....the ride is far better and it actually got me to thinking about putting air bags all around in the truck just to get the ride quality

Pillows dude, get pillows...

Seriously Prop, air bags kick the sh*t outta helper springs or anything else I have ever used/seen...
my buddy owns a powersports shop here in tampa bay and we tow a 30ft toy hauler with his f 250 and he had airbags put in the rear to help out and what a diff it made it was like day and night towing that thing even completely loaded with quads and such so i say yes +1 on the bags....
I'm specifically looking to tame the jerking/bumping motions sent back to the truck from the trailer on bumpy roads.
And you can deflate to the point where they don't raise the rear of the truck any when not towing? I've installed drop shackles to lower my Ram 1.25" for a better, more level stance, and love it. Don't want air bags lifting the rear when I'm not towing....
I put 5lbs min. in mine and my rear went up about 1". I think that's very tolerable. Also, if you have drop shackles, your gonna want to make sure you get the Airride set-up or just make sure the airbags mount between the leaf spring and the frame. You cannot use the over the axle bags. Most are mounted to the leaf springs.

Does this mean that there's a minimum pressure which must be run when not towing? I want zero lift on the rear when in street mode. (No tow)

I installed my drop shackles to level the truck. Don't want to undo that mod, as I like the level stance.
I ordered 'em up. Carparts.com @ $189 for the Airlift Ridecontrol model. If they raise the back @ 5 psi, I'm gonna fill the bed with dead bodies or something until it drops back to my "preferred ride height".

Wish me luck....
I have the Air Lift ride control and there is absolutely no lift with 5 lbs of air in them, for ****s and giggles I filled them to the capacity of 100# and measured and the total lift height was 3/4"...
