4:10 vs 4:56
i know you guys are getting sick of me asking all about gears but heres my last question, at least i hope it is. should i go 4:10 or 4:56? the truck is a 2003 qc 1500 4.7 4x4 with cai and a fastman tb. i drive 60/40 city highway and average 150-200 miles a day. i do pull my boat which is about 6500 pounds. i am getting about 13.8 mpg city and 16-17 highway. im running stock 17" rims with 32" tires. im going to get a programmer and 206 cam but the 3:55's are just killing me. im sold on 4:10 but if the 4:56 wont be much worse on gas or maybe the same ill go 4:56. can anybody with a similar setup tell me there mpg. what are you getting with your 4:10s and 4:56s? thanks again. btw im going to get a ctd by the end of the year since my diesel withdrawls are getting worse by the day but for now i want a quick truck that can haul my boat.
4.10s ARE an option, but you are only talking about 300 rpms higher at about 70 mph, with the 4.56s, gas mileage difference would be almost un-noticeable, but the slightly higher rpms would keep you in the Hemi's sweet spot, optimizing power/mpg better and would keep the tranny from searching as much.
So even though the 4.10s are an option, they are really not an option...

i think most people will recommend you the 4.56s because that will make a more noticeable difference. you will definitely get a better power response and gas mileage
this has been answered 5,467 times in the last 365 days. Your in town mileage will slightly improve, your interstate mileage will slightly decrease. Over-all, it will be roughly the same...

I cant believe people who are driving a big honkin Dodge Ram with a gas guzzlin V8 and use it to haul your 6500 pound toys are worrying about a couple of bucks in gas mileage. Are you on the boat forums asking how a different pitch prop will get you better mileeage on the water? Probably not. Give it up!!! There is no magic Mod,bolt on or computer program that is gonna give the horsepower and torque you want and get 30MPG. Its one or the other. If you wanna play you are gonna pay. Its that simple. You have a couple of options I am seeing here. Sell your Ram and your 6500 pound boat, get a penile implant (to compensate for the boat),a John boat,a Minkota, a Honda Civic with a trailer hitch and your all set...

Considering gears are going to cost you like $1500 you may as well go with the 4.56 most people who re-gear always say they'd never mind having gone a little bit lower.

look alpheus i never said i wanted both. i asked about the trade offs. dont be a jealous c*ckmaster and respond to peoples questions in a way that make you seem like like a teenager. your childish response tells me one of two things, your a child or you have dont like to be out done so you knock people. its answers like yours that make me and others not even want to be part of a community such as the dodge forum. everyone elses answers on this thread were polite and patient with someone that said they were sorry right off the bat. so maybe you out to look into that penile implant you so quickly reffered to. looks like its been on your mind for a while since you thought to mention it.
