Default question on 04 5.7 w/LSD and "c clips"

Ok, well I came on and got on my AllData and found how much I need and what kind. I ended up buying Mobile 1 synthenic 75-140 at 18 bux a qrt. I took some pics and will post them and I have some pics I wanna ask about them.

First pic. I have circled the clip but how do I pull it out? I have pulled and pulled but can barely get any bite on it and so it keeps slipping. Secondly, is this all of the clip or should there be more of it broken off somewhere and me looking for it?

In this picture the clip is completely gone so I dont have to worry about pulling it out but in the right side of the unit there is an empty hole with nothing in it. While I am not too worried about this, I am worried about it in the next picture

So in this last picture you will see the clip on the left that is still in place and I cannot pull out. On the right is a piece in the unit that does wiggle and move and what I believe to be my other missing clip from the other side of the carrier. So can someone please confirm thats what it is and should not be there?

Here are the pics in links you can click on to maybe get a bigger pic.

Also, it looks like the only way I am going to get that loose clips that somehow managed to wedge itself between the bearing cap on pic 5 is to remove the bearing cap. By doing so will it disrupt anything or can I simply remove the cap, remove the clip and put back the cap?

Without breaking off the ends of the clips (the little "w" piece) you won't get them out. It's a little spring tension thingamajig.

Also, you won't be able to remove the right side ones without removing the bearing cap, as you can see they are almost against the cap. If you decide to remove the cap, you will need to know what the torque value is to tighten properly. If you don't, you run the risk of wearing the bearing unevenly.

Let me know how it goes.

THX. I had already pulled the TQ specs from AllDat earlier this morning. However, I also called the dealership after lunch and after talking with them they said it was still under my 7/70 (IDK that) and to bring it in as they would replace the entire unit for a $100 deductable. I spent that alone in Permatex, a gasket, LSD additive and 3 qrts of Mobile 1 Syn

So off to the shop on Monday it goes.

Oh don't worry then. You'll have it back in before 70k to have that diff replaced as well.

That's what I'm counting on for my truck.

Cheers

hmm, I called the dealer today to see if I could buy new clips and he said I didn't need them. Just pull them out. Hopefully it isn't too hard.
