I doubt it's the head unit. It's probably a faulty wire along the way or a loose connection at the amp.

This question has been asked alot but...Where is the amp and where do they typically run the wires?

I had the 4 speaker system so i don't know where they keep the amps, but my wires were routed all over. Through the plasitc molding underneath the door sill plate. There were speaker wires that wer ran in the middle underneath the carpet? Just weird how they routed them. it's a mouse hunt and unless you remove your seats and carpet.

Have you tried to trace the wires from behind the dash? You should be able to put a meter on the speaker end and see if you've got any resistance. Depending on that reading will tell you if you've got a break in the line. Then you can start chasing the wire and probe it at each connection to find the problem.

dunno that's why I am asking. My SAAB had Harmon Cardon amp and speakers separate from head unit...from the factory.
