Man that sucks. You should have gotten an 07 and not an 08. On an 07 you can put any size tire you want on but do to the super secret suspension that was put on the 08 you have to only use stock tire size. Do a search and you will see that I'm right...

You can put a 17x9 but you'll need a different offset than factory rims to keep them from rubbing. Your rubbing is going to come from your tire width, not the rim. If you're rubbing the rim you have some serious problems. Consider going with a 285/70R17 on 17x8 wheels and you should have no rubbing issues. 285/70 is exactly the same height as the 305/65 but 1" narrower. The 305/65 will work just fine on a 17x8 rim also. I ran 305/70R16 on my 2001 2500 with 16x8 factory rims.

17x9 with a 4" backspacing. That will set you outside the fenders about an inch or so. With those wide tires, if you got a 10" wide wheel with a 4" backspacing, you'll be outside the fenders almost 2"
