well new srts from the dealer are 650-700 i think. then you have to get it painted. i dont know about the stock hoods though. you can find a used one for about 500 and then have it painted for around 300

For me I have a $500 deductable, and that’s all I had to pay. Which is not bad considering the hood itself is $650, unpainted from the dealer. The dealer I go to has a body shop, and I think it was around $1000 for the hood, paint, and installation.

So all you payed for was the deductable or deductable and the $1000 for the hood.

Just the deductable, it would have cost around $1000 if i had to pay for the whole thing myself.

wow, you got a great deal. thats like the first time where insurance actually helped people. most of the time, they are so stingy with their money and make up all sorts of excuses

Does anyone else think that a family member giving you a gift of a viper engine sounds like the best gift ever?

This sounds kinda fishy. When I get gifts, I wouldn't give them something like that. And anyone who comes from a family to afford that will be able to afford having a shop put it in.
As far as being stolen, that would be one hell of an item to take out the doors. It's not quite like how Johnny Cash stole a Cadillac, that is an over $10,000 motor, or somewhere near that value.
It just seems like a bad deal. Whether it was an old motor, then he boxed it up, and is trying to sell it as a new one. Doing something like that would be more than possible. It would take some time and cleaning up to make it look new.
