could driving your truck until it runs out of gas cause some bad damage? and if so what should i look for? i have been noticing that the first time i start up my truck each day my truck sounds like it barely wants to start up... any thoughts?

well battery is usually the culprit of having a hard time starting on a newer truck.

You know that the actual gas lubricates your fuel pump, huh? A newer vehicle shouldn't be run on lower than 1/4 tank and for sure not under 1/8...One hard turn could leave that pump sucking air! I'm not a mechanic so I can't tell you what to look or listen for but why don't you hook up your meter to the battery and see if it has a full charge, then cut your truck on and see if your alternator is charging if the battery is low

Fuel doesn't lube the pump but it does keep it cool....that bastard will fry in a hurry especially on hot days with very low fuel. There are additives that will lube the pump though. Running completely out of gas can also cause any sludge in the tank to be sucked up...clogging the "filter" or even worse getting past it. It's just a bad thing to do...like someone stated earlier fuel up at 1/4 tank.

i'm not to sure on the newer trucks but there should be a purge valve somewhere on the fuel rail.

i rarely fuel up my truck past 1/2 a tank because i never have enough money to fill it up completely and then i usually fill it up at a 1/8 tank or when the light comes on. im sure that this is not good but ive never had problems as far as i can see

I am not sure on a truck but I know on a motorcycle you unhook the fuel line, put it in a gas can, and turn the engine over. But once again, not sure on a truck
