Well, I suppose Chrysler is correct. I always thought tow/haul mode retained 5th gear but took a long time to shift into it. Apparently it was 3rd/4th it was holding out on. 5th gear must be so close to 4th because my truck only noticed a 300rpm difference between the two at 70mph. It also took my truck 2 full miles to shift from 4th into 5th at 70mph on flat level ground even with the cruise control on. I think that's ridiculous! 2 miles. I always thought i still had 5th gear because apparently my truck rarely ever makes it to 5th gear. How pointless is that?
Anyways, my apologies for bickering about it and i felt like ranting as well....lol

Mine hits 5th pretty quick, well less than 2 miles for sure. It adapts to driving habits, do you not get out on the open road much?
Until my test, Dog, I didn't realize the small drop between 4th and 5th either. I guess every little bit helps @ 70mph which is the speed limit part of the way to work. Today, it was 75 degrees and I got 20.2mph on the highway coming home driving 70, then 65 then 55. Filled up when leaving and again when I got off the interstate. Truck runs better too, I had to kick it from about a 20mph roll to hit an entrance ramp later in the day and it kicked back into 1st and pulled harder than it ever has!! I was impressed!!!!! Oh, and with the 93 tune from my Predator, the tranny still hasn't blown up

Fifth gear is pretty much useless. With lower gears in the axles it would probably be better but with 3.55 gears any slight incline and the truck is back in 4th gear. Here in Colorado where you can't go anywhere without going up and down hills my truck hardly ever sees fifth gear.
Fourth gear is .73:1 ratio while fifth is .67:1 (if I remember correctly). Unless you're driving about 100mph, rpms in fifth gear are too low that the truck isn't in its power band.

it automatically starts downshifting to assist with slowing down/braking in case you are towing. maybe thats what you are feeling.
