im just trying to not post a new thread.. and post on this and ask..

I'm confused also about how the coupler to the throttle body is.. I have a 2002 5.9L 1500 (sorry if im at wrong section) but can I just cut the stock one off but keep it all connected then add the tubing from there, then i dont need to cut any special holes and mount new gauges or whatever to the new pipes because it would still have the stock on there..

also is it necessary to have a heat shield around the filter, or can i just have it mounted close to the radiator on the side with no heat shield?

Its up to you if you want to cut off the stock one or not. Personally, I kept the stock one intact just in case I ever had an issue with the new one and had to make repairs or anything. That way I could just slap the stock on back on. It wasnt too difficult adding a pvc grommet and pvc barbed fitting to the new pipe so I just did that. If you do that then when you put the oxygen sensor in the new pipe just make sure its facing the right way.

On your second question, I did not install a heat shield around it but I built it so that the filter would be sitting where the old filter chamber was located. I have seen some modders on this site install one. I guess it depends on how close you are to the rad.

so a 3" rubber piece will fit onto the throttle body, then I just attach PVC pipe to the end of that.. and then all my couplers and connections off that bend to my air filter correct? I'm wondering more about what to use to connect to the throttle body..

also what did you do to connect the oxygen sensor just drilled a hole into the pvc pipe?

I used a pvc grommet from a Toyota I believe.

I believe it is a 3" rubber ABS coupler that fit. You have a different model so you will have to take some measurements

I think your looking for something like this:
http://www.lowes.com/pd_23475-34146-...7C1%26page%3D3

**Just saw that your throttle body (TB) is vertical so that part above may or may not work. My TB is horizontal and the part above works for me.

One thing that help me decide parts and sizes was the installation instructions for a K&N filter. It told me grommet and hose sizes. Maybe worth taking a look at.

A 1/2" hole can be drilled for the IAT sensor and can be in either the PVC itself or in the rubber coupler that attaches the TB to the PVC

Ive got pics of mine in my signature link.
