Red face Exhaust Help (i know it's like the 100,000th one)

I just got my Ram and am very new to the whole "crawl under the truck and do it your self" thing. I'm looking to put on a new exhaust system that sounds better, but i have no idea what to get. I want that deep rumble, but i don't want it so loud that girls think it's annoying, (i know stupid reason but can you blame me?) also when i get under there to see what would fit and where, i'm totally lost.
I can identify the catalytic converters, but behind them (as you head rearward) there are three 'muffler like' boxes the first being small maybe 18x6x10 the next large 28x8x14 ish and the last being small like the first, i know it's dumb, but can someone help me put names to my mystery boxes?

also any suggestions for a new system would be very appreciated.

The big 5 gallon drum looking one is the muffler...the other two are resonators. Your best bet is a electric cut-out with the stock exhaust...you get loud when you want it and flip the switch for stock quiet for the girls. http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/index.php

Has anybody just removed the large centre box and replaced it with a straight through pipe? What does it sound like?

The reason I ask is it's easy to remove as there are clamps either side and I can get a pipe made for not much money making it an economical mod.

yep, i replaced the muffler with a pipe, it was loud, and way too raspy for my liking, so i put in a 3" cherry bomb glasspack, and it is much better.
I posted some videos of it, i think it was called "poor man's exhaust"

If you are looking for a mild sounding exhaust I would recommend the 50hd, I had it on my truck at one point and it was a little louder than stock but not too loud. If you are looking to have control over your tone, you could always go with an e-cutout. Here is what my e-cutout sounds like with just a little throttle.

Thanks, everybody, very helpful.
I heard that when the MDS switches to 4 it really changes the sound with mod exhaust, has anyone experienced this?

Also what if i took off both of the resonators and just left the big muffler, how would that sound?

I like the tone of the 50hds...I am thinking about adding an e-cutout, tho...I think it would be the best of both worlds

Ive got a catback dual Flowmaster 40 with an E-cutout in front of it so as had been said earlier, I can open it when I want and sound really nice or close it when she is in the truck and sound cute.
