Default PowerWire v/s 4.7k resistor

As some of you may remember I played with 3 different resistor values on my 04 5.7 with the intake sensor. The one that did the most (when read with a SC3815) was the 4.7k resistor. As we all know (well, most of us) you can buy a 5pk of 4.7k resistors at RadioShack for $1. Me pesonally, I didnt notice a difference but if you click on the link on my sig for sig (because it too damn much to add here) you will see I have a fair share of mods. So this may be why I have not seen any change or just cannot notice a change.

But anyway, last week a guy had a PowerWire for sale so I picked it up from him. We all know they are $50+ new. When I got it the first thing I did with it was hook it to my Fluke meter and did a reading and guess what I got??

So for all you guys who have paid $50+ for it. Youve been **** molested. For anyone who bought a used one at a cheaper price but still more that $1 to $5 you have been just regular molested.

So now you know the difference between the PowerWire and a 4.7k resistor from RS.

I think it's been pretty common knowledge for a while that a Power Wire was just a plug-n-play 4.7 kOhm resistor.

LOL.......I guess you molested the seller because you got yours for free

I mean seriously, I can understand a business model and trying to make money but that really is a hell of a profit from $5 to $55 just to make it PnP.

and the cost of wires and all that goes into putting them together. I bought it for the simple fact of convenience. I didn't want to have to put one together that looked like ****. It is a close to stock looking mod, and it helps me at WOT. I think I got the deal.

Well there is a small amount of labor that goes into making it and the other parts besides the the resistor. I found out shortly after I got one that they are just simple resistors, but you live and learn.

IDK about you guys, but I have always been into electrical so when i did mine I simply took a 6'' peice of maybe 18ga wire and tinned both ends. I took my 4.7k resistor and took each end of it and bent it in half and tinned it also. The I took each end of the pre-tinned wire and soildered it to each end of the resistor. At that point it forms a complete loop but then I cut the wire in the middle and that gave me about 3'' in each end. I took some heat shrink I have (got lots of it) and slid it over the resistor and heated it up. Then I took it and simply soildered two 16/18ga (red or pink) male spade connectors on each end of those wires. I took one side of my AIT wire and cut it, soilder female spades on each end and plugged the resistor in place. I slid a peice of 1/4'' wire loom over it and you never can tell any difference.

I guess that $50 I donated to a military man rather than giving to the bartender that night. Agree..live and learn. Could have spent a lot more for a lot less IMO.
