Default Ticking Sound

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if the ticking sound was ever identified when the truck first starts up (maybe for the first 5-10 minutes). I have an -04 Hemi with ~140K miles and a wonderful new tick sound....gotta love it

Well mine ticks, but only when then engine is cold. When it warms up, it's quiet as a mouse. It started ticking around 6K miles and now I have 32K on it, and the ticks haven't gotten any louder. I believe the tick is caused by excessive valve stem clearance when the engine is cold.

The truck still ticks, and pretty noticably too. I've broughten it to the dodge dealership twice in regards to the ticking and both times they told me it was normal. It wasn't until after I test drove a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi and heard the exact same loud ticking noise where I gave up letting it bother me. I will admit that it still can be kind of embarrassing when me and my friends are around my truck while its ideling and the ticking noise is prevalent. Guess its just one of those things dodge motors do, but like any manaufacturer, they always have some sort of unique annoying thing about them.

"All trucks tick. As long as as it does not get louder and stays consistant." - Denis Hall @ B.P. Auto. LOL! Haha!
