Default 4.7 acted WIERD today????

Holy smokes 3 posts in 3 years, I'm on a roll...

Hello again folks,

Ok so this was really wierd. 02 4.7 never had any issues (other then sludge which i plan to fix very soon) So just clicked 200,000km. It rained pretty hard the past couple days which may relate I'm not sure. I went out after not running my truck for a day and the starter turned over quite slowly, almost like a dead or dying batt. After a few revolutions it fired up and died right away. It did the same thing twice more. The 3rd time i held the gas to prevent it from dying and held the revs at about 1500 for about 2 mins. at which time i let go of the throttle and the revs came down as normal.

At this time I drove about 5km and i noticed while driving when i took my foot off the accelerator, my rpm would drop below 500 like it was going to stall and then come back up to about 1000 (as normal). It did not stall during the drive.

I parked it for 5 mins came back and it was fine. I drove home, parked 5 mins again and it happened again. I then drove another 5 or so km left the truck for a few hours and sure enough it happened again. I woke up this morning went outside and it fired up no problem... I'm a little confused.

My airbag light came on too yesterday. I replaced the air vents in the cab after cleaning them and wonder if i may have somehow bumped the passenger switch because it no longer lights up. Any thoughts on this? Is there a fuse for this?

on the stalling:
dirty throttle body (easy to clean, check DIY), PCV valve, EGR valve? Start with the throttle body.

To add to this...

I went out a second time while "rearranging" some fuses for another issue and i started it for a second time, about half hour after first start up this morning. I noticed the truck was again starting to crank slowly. However this time it fired up and ran.

I swear it is a battery issue. Here is my reasoning: It acts just like a dying battery, i.e. lights on dash dim while cranking almost flicker. I have not changed the battery since I have owned the truck 3 years and there is 200,000 km on it, I've put on 100,000. This winter I let my truck sit for a about 5 days and when I came back my bat was totally dead. I boosted it and it seemed ok.

I plan on cleaning the TB just for good practice, but what are your thoughts as far as this goes? How do I know that my alternator is ok without taking it in for a test?

I think its time to bench test the battery. Doesn't Autozone do this for free?

YET ANOTHER UPDATE

Ok this thing has me worried! I went out and started it again. And again it cranked slow like a dead battery. Only this time when it was started i got a bunch of dings and my ABS light, my Airbag light and my parking brake light were on. I'm not kidding. What the hell? Anyone have any ideas? I'm starting to get worried. Could low voltage from the battery cause this? Once I start it and run it for a few minutes, the truck starts like normal like the alternator has put a charge in the battery which seems not to hold onto it very well. I'm just worried about the light show on my dash

All that weird stuff is your battery. The Ram acts liked its possessed by demons when the battery voltage is low. Get yourself a new battery and you should be fine...

I agree with the battery issue. Your computer is getting low voltage, not enough to run at full strength. Change the battery and check your alternator.

Good luck man, thats usually the problem, I have a 02 4.7 and I needed a new battery a few months ago and Ill be damned if I didn't think my truck really was possessed, it made weird noises did weird stuff, all of which you've described, and when I changed the Batt it was fine.

Well I just got back from Autozone and the guy hooked up the tester to the battery and it said everything seemed ok but the battery needed a charge. Last week i left my inverter plugged in overnight and when i came out the next day my truck had a tough time cranking. Maybe the battery hasn't recovered from this? I kind of figured the alternator would have charged it up. Anyway, I'll go back in a couple hours to pick up the battery and see if that did the trick.
