Thanks for the link. I'm up to speed on Obummer's warranty; I believe that it only applies to vehicles purchased during the restructuring period-that is, the vehicle must have been purchased after March 30, 2009.

We bought a Ram 2500 10/08 and a Charger 3/28/09.

Paddin' my posts; don't know how to do the multi-quote thing.

I bought 3 new ones in 08. I will lose out on all 3 lifetime powertrain warranties

Yea, that really sucks. One of the main selling points to me was the lifetime powertrain warranty. Done deal when I found out I could get lifetime bumper to bumper, plus I like the look of the Dodge vehicles. We had previously owned a Durango-pretty much problem free (had a window motor issue and electric locks began freezing and squeaking).

The lifetime powertrain warranty is a Chrysler thing. It is free with purchase. Add-on warranties like the 7yr/85K bumper to bumper that I bought will still be good I believe.

I had a lengthy conversation about this whilst hitting a bucket of golf ***** at the range with the sales mgr. of my local Chrysler dealership about 10 days ago.
According to him, when bankruptcy is filed, all Lifetime Warranties on vehicles purchased prior to April 1, 2009 will be null and void. Any extended warranties purchased through Chrysler (about all bought at dealerships for new car purchases) will be null and void.
My truck will lose the remainder of it's 7/70 Powertrain, but hell, I've modified it to the point that I'd have a fight on my hands for a claim anyway.
The '08 Grand Caravan I bought my mother is another story. Like many of you, the Lifetime Warranty was a big factor and I added the 7 years of bumper to bumper for a hefty fee.

They go under and the next company does NOT honor warranties, sadly, I may become a Ford Truck guy on my next purchase...

so i wonder if i should go and "cash" my extended warranty in and put it towards the principal instead of losing it completely?

That sucks. My 3yr/36000mi warranty just finished up, and I still have four years left on my extended warranty. Although, from what I have read, if they declare bankruptcy, they're not going to go out of business. It would just be to get out of all their debt and to restructure. But I suppose on the plus side, there was some stuff I wanted to do to my truck, but was unsure of because of my extended warranty, I guess I may have to worry about it anymore.

I am assuming your extended warranty is through Chrysler, so how would you go about doing that? If you can do that, I think I am going to have to do it too, if I am going to lose it.

Chrysler doesn't just get to decide what commitments they honor, and which they don't. It's up to the bankruptcy judge to decide. Until it's final, we just wont know.
