Default Happy New Guy w/?s

OK so I have searched here and found some infor I needed, but not all. I joined the world of what I consider Big Truck Owners over last weekend. Prior to my purchase I had a 01 Tundra which I got new, but put 180,000+ hard miles on it (mostly off road in places most people will not go). At any rate last weekend my wife and I drove to teh nearest big city to do a little shopping. She went into a office supply store I wondered around a the dealership. I had planned on buying a new truck, but was only looking to get an idea since I had not even looked inside a new truck since 01. After all was said and done my forced (not much force needed) me to purchase a 2006 1500 Mega Cab 5.7l. We got a good deal. We ended up with the truck for a purchase price of 19,800 minus a $4,000 trade in on my tundra sight unseen. Was that a pretty good deal? The truck has 32,000 miles on it and appears to have never seen a gravel road. Body perfect, interior perfect, etc.

So here are my questions. What is the difference between the 1500 and the 2500 for the 06? Seriously I ahve researched and only saw an extra leaf as a difference.

I am only flat towing a jeep about 3 times a year and a 19' older camper. It has the tow package and a class IV hitch with trailer brakes ready. How big of a trailer can I eventually get before concerns? If the springs are hte only difference than can I simply order a set of 2500 springs to make the difference?
Cool thats longer than I wanted it to be. Thanks for the help.

The Megacab is called a 1500 but had heavier suspension. I think the rearend is 10.25 vs 10.5 in the actual 2500 series. Not 100% sure on that.
I would suggest reading the owners manual to find the tow rating of the truck.

Here are the towing specs from my 08 Brochure.

1500 QC 5.7L 3.92 gears
4x2= 8750lbs 4x4 = 8500lbs

1500 Mega Cab 3.73 gears
4x2 = 7900lbs 4x4 = 7450lbs

1500 Mega Cab 4.10 gears
4x2 = 8900lbs 4x4 = 8450lbs

So it really depends on if it is a 2wd or 4x4 and if it has 3.73 or 4.10 gears.

a 2500 with 4.10 gears will tow about 1900lbs more than yours with a Hemi.

It should tow both of your toys with ease.
Here is an old article or two on the 06 4x4.

Wouldnt the towing package mean 3.92? I thought that was an automatic upgrade with the towin package, but I didnt watch the 06 rams that hard.
EDIT: That price seems to be a little high to me, but if your happy, who cares?

Mega Cabs only come with either 3.73 or 4.10 in the 1500 series.

3.92 is for std cab and quadcab.
