Stick with paint. It is fast, cheap and no melting.

Actually there are new methods to powder coat abs plastic, but it's pricey.

You might consider getting a storm shelter built into the floor. I have one in my garage back in Oklahoma. Not ideal, but it does double as a car pit... It was pretty handy for oil changes.
