Default Exhaust and MPG

Well I've decided glasspacks are the way to go on my 03 4x4 4.7. I'm just curious how will the glasspacks effect performance and MPG?

Thanx

I'd have to guess and say that MPG won't change, but the performance may increase a little. It's going to be F'ing loud though. Have fun.

Performance will go up some. MPG will go down cuz you'll have a heavy foot wanting to hear your exhaust.[sm=badbadbad.gif]

Only a tiny fragment of a barely noticable amount. But they sound so much better than some exhuast folks shell out 3 to $400 for.

So where do these people come from when saying they noticed a 2,3,or even 4 mpg jump in mileage after putting on duals?

MPG's and exhaust systems are more complicated than just changing mufflers. Your glass packs are only going to give you the sound... I assume you wanted. You probably will see no increase in MPG at all. Even when changing to low restriction CATS the mileage will only go up about 1 MPG, but you will see a performance increase if your loading the truck often. A quality engineered header to tail pipe system may help you a bit more on mileage but when you consider the cost of such systems over $1200 I question if it's worth it?

Bottomline-- todays auto makers are getting more performance and miledge than ever before. Obviously computer technology plays a big role in performance and economy, but the auto makers are also doing a good job of engineering exhaust systems right out of the factory. They really flow pretty good. Much better than the early CAT systems of the mid-seventies. I would say enjoy the sound of your new glass packs and face the fact that all of us who have these really cool Ram trucks are going to burn more fossil fuel to drive and enjoy them.
