egr should rattle when u shake it. but i agree if your cat is clogged it will choke power i have heard that tapping it with a hammer will knock some loose not sure if that is a good idea??? Be careful totaly removing cat if you are in a state that has inspections. And yes spray the butterflys in tb with the cleaner, u will have to feather the throttle to keep it running but it will help, plugs and wires cant hurt either(pain in the rear to change) Good luck, keep on ramming!!!

I'll give this a shot... I think I am also going to reset the PCM and see what that does.

The 5.9s really vary in power mostly due to gear ratios. My 2001 with the 5.9L had the 4.10 gearing in it, and it could very easily spin the tires. However, my friend's 2000 Ram with 3.55 gearing could not spin the tires, and didn't have near the acceleration as my truck did. It'd be interesting to know what gearing your friend's truck has. I think the 360 motor is a lot more raw than the 5.7 Hemi is, but isn't nearly as refined, smooth, or fast. I would trust a 360 pulling a heavy load over the 5.7L, but it sucks much more gas, and is quite a bit slower.

After reading this, I guess I have the 3.55's or 3.92's...

This ten year old transmission is used only with the 360 engine, and offers greater hauling capacity. It has hydraulic control, electronically controlled governor, overdrive lockout and converter clutch.

Gear Ratios

1st 2.45
2nd 1.45
3rd 1.00
4th 0.69
Overall Top Gear Ratio 2.45 w3.55 axle and 2.70 w/3.92 axle

I just wanted to further show my point about the gearing.

I'm going to post a video of a truck with the 3.55 gearing doing 0-60mph:

And this is my old truck with 4.10 gearing doing 0-60:

I only have it on my space, so I don't think it will show unless you have an account. But it's around 7.5 seconds with the 4.10 gearing.

Yes, it gets a little nasty. I recall getting 9-10 mpg in the winter. And 11-12 during the summer. The 360 with 4.10 gearing is a very fun truck to drive around in the city though, just has tons of power. But driving on the highway was an absolute PITA. It was very loud in the cab, it had a hard time sustaining highway speeds, sucked lots of gas, and could only go about 70mph tops without the rpms getting stupidly high. That's probably the biggest reason I got rid of it, because it pretty much didn't have highway capabilities. Obviously it could travel down the highway, but you were just really forcing the issue taking the big dodge on trips.
