With today's highly efficient engine management systems the reasons for using certain grade oils is different and effects emissions, sensors, performance and what have you! Changing from 87ish to 91ish octane will not make your plugs look any better at the next change as the engine management system is set up to run with a certain octane rating! What will change it is where you get your fuel! Many of the lower priced corner gas stations have lower grade fuel it is a fact! Not lower octane just cheap fuel! Get your gas at a place like Chevron or Shell, I use Sam's and one that is pretty busy this way the gas is cleaner! You will want to keep to them as much as possible. Oil you might want to check with the dealer on that although it is hard to get the recommended oil but check with them to see what they might help with! No disrespect to your friend and the others but the old school of thought might cost you in the end! I see it everyday and I am old school!!

Default platinum spark plugs

This needs to be put to rest.....There's nothing wrong with platinum spark plugs in a hemi. In fact, the new hemi's come with Platinum Spark plugs. I personally think this rumor got started because some people have tried to put sparkplugs in their hemi, and didn't get the coil packs seated down right and got a bad connection.

Read the note on the right of the screen in the middle.

In fuel saver mode, the multi-displacement system (MDS) shuts down four cylinders
Aluminum cylinder heads with hemispherical combustion chambers
PLATINUM SPARKPLUGS
Available dual exhaust
Improved fuel economy.

You missed the point. Many rumors are ignorantly started that platinum tips shouldn't be used in the hemi motors because of the increase of misfires & problems. That being stated, my earlier post was simply identifying that there are no problems with platinum plugs in a hemi motor and that Dodge is now using them for OEM.

My earlier post was to only put the rumor to rest.

We might have to wonder, though, if something hasn't changed with the newer hemi engines. A small redesign of the combustion chamber, something like that. Others have reported problems with platinum plugs, although there are a variety of reasons for a misfire (improper gap, bad wire, etc.). I wouldn't consider someone reporting their own experience as starting a rumor.

What is recommended in the owner's manual? Mine, a 2004, recommends (on the emissions sticker under the hood) the Champion RE14MCC4, which is copper.
