HEMI Ram vs 4.8L Silverado
I checked chevy's site and they said about 4500. The only thing I'm going off of for my truck is my NC Registration card that says "Shipping Weight: 4995 lb"
Before i got this dodge 2008 5.7L of mine i had a 1999 5.3L v8 in my 2wheel drive extended cab gmc...the only mods were intake and exhaust and it for a fact was quicker to 100mph than my 5.7L is even after the tune, intake, and exhaust that i have...after 100mph the dodge would leave it and on initial take off my dodge would of took my chevy...just giving my inside information those gm motors have a **** load of top end power and need to rev to get it they dont have much bottom unless you get to the 6L or the old 5.7L
I traded my 2000 Silverado short box/stepside 4.8L for my Hemi ram. i had 3:73's in the Silver, The 4.8L only has 265hp, and doesn't have near the same torque. i think it's at 285ft.lbs vs Hemi at 375.
The 4.8L was notorious for Piston slap and loud lifters. Mine sounded like marbles shook up in a coffe can for 10 seconds upon cold start-up but then quieted down.
My short box weighed 4800lbs or there abouts. A QC Hemi weighs about 500lbs more. Every 100lbs is only .1sec in the 1/4mi.
If you have a QC Ram and your bud has a reg cab. The Silverado would win, but if you both have QC's, then you will win. If you both have a 5k# trailer behind you...You would Obliviate him. The 4.8L engines are not made for anything but driving an empty truck down the road.
Have driven both extensively, the hemi is far better all around than the 4.8L will ever be. My Silverado would bark at me towing my car around, where as my Hemi barely feels it back there.
Tell him to hook up to a heavy trailer like a truck is suppose to be used for and then you'll race him... I bet he won't!

Lets keep that on the down low...
