Default Gas Smell in Cab

Hey guys... got a 2003 Ram QC 4x4 with the smell of gas in the cab. The truck also stalls sometimes when I slow to a stop. There is some inconsistent idle when cold as well.

I did the search here and came up with the following.

  • Clean Throttle body
  • Replace EGR valve
  • check evap system for leaks
  • check for bad throttle sensor
  • fuel module? (not sure about this... but it was in the search)
  • check throttle position sensor
Am I missing anything?

I know this has been answered a few times, but not all in one place. I just wanna make sure I didn't miss something important.

Clean or replace the IAT valve. Mounted to the T/B

Also, plugs are due every 30kmi. bad plugs will give gas smell and erratic idle.

It's unclear to me what the IAT valve is... is there a different name? Does someone have a link to a diagram?

Haven't checked the IAC yet, but I did change the plugs and clean the throttle body. The truck hasn't had the erratic idle yet but the smell in cab is worse... and now I have a check engine light. I'll get the codes tomorrow hopefully and have a better clue.

Replaced the hoses on the evap canister and it seems like the gas smell is going away. I still have the check engine light on.... does that go off on it's own?

UPDATE: The gas smell did go away but within a week or so of doing that work the erratic idle returned. I researched and hesitated for a good long time because I didn't want to just start replacing things because it "might be the problem". I recently read a thread on here where someone said it was the TPS and it fixed his problem. I took a gamble on that one because it was easy and cheap. Well, it worked! My truck is running smoothly once again. Thanks!
