Default Gears Suggestions

Well, I recently got the go ahead from the wife to get some gears. I have the lowly 3.21 gears so I am looking forward to it.

I am considering the 4.10 and the 4.56 gear sets. I am currently running the stock 265/70-17 tires but will be upgrading to 285/70s in the near future.

Obviously everyone likes the 4.56s. The 4.10s should be plenty good as well I would imagine. Any issues installing the 4.56 gears?

Then there are the brands: Yukon, Motive, Richmond, etc. Comments good or bad?

Just looking for some comments and suggestion from those of you that have replaced the gears in your trucks. Thanks in advance...

im gonna vote for 4.10s. im no expert by any means, but seems like if the largest tire you will be running is a 285, then 4.56 is kinda overkill. thats how it seems to me at least. im still in the same dilemma as you right now, minus the go ahead from the wife.

funny ^^^

I think I can get it done for about $300 in labor. Then the gears are about $250 or so. Would it be worth it to get the install kit?

Rule of Thumb #1: 4.10s for 33" tires or smaller. 4.56s for larger than 33s or heavy towing.

Rule of Thumb #2: Master Install Kit required if you have over 30k miles on your truck, Minor install if not...

Great Hammer - thanks.....4.10 is probably all I really need. I just don't want to pay for this and then say "I wish I had gotten 4.56s!" LOL

Truly, for what I use it for, 4.10s are plenty sufficient. It ain't no drag truck!

3.21??!?! i thought the shortest gears the ram had were 3.55 if you didnt get the tow package. 3.21 comes in a lot of cars for economy reasons.

you should be good with 4.10 (unless you ever plan on lifting and bigger tires. 4.56 wouldnt hurt and you may as well so you dont kick yourself down the road)
