Default Amsoil

I'm getting ready to buy new motor oil for my truck, and would like to buy Amsoil. I ran this oil on my 2nd generation Ram, and had no issues. However, I had a couple questions before I purchase the oil. I notice on their site that they offer three different oil weights for our trucks: 100% Synthetic 0w-20, SAE 5w-20, and SAE OW-30. I can't say I'd be comfortable running the 0w-30 because our trucks call for 20, but I wanted to know what you guys thought of the 0w-20, seems pretty interesting. I've never been a guy to actually run the miles Amsoil suggests, and change it every 5,000 miles, so mileage is not a motivation factor here.

Lol. There is a low down on Amsoil? To me, oil is oil. Everybody has their own preferences, especially when it comes to synthetics. Most people just throw in typical conventional oil from Prompto, and their trucks run just fine. I'm sure Amsoil out performs conventional oil at a bare minimum.

Can't go wrong with ANY oil these days. Really. The oil is so superior than what it was 20years ago. Synthetic is an absolute bonus. Brand name menas nothing at that point. It's personal preference. What I do know is that Amsoil and Mobil 1 were tested side by side in an independant study and Amsoil actually increased it's viscosity to almost straight 30w where as Mobil1 didn't. I believe that was at like 30kmi with just filter changes, so 5kmi intervals with a Synthetic filter is very do able. That's exactly what i do. 5kmi intervals w/Mobil1 (local Advance periodically has $29.99 5qt. Mobil1 oil/filter change specials) The 2 extra qts are at the discounted price too. i think it's $2.04

I am partial to synthetics myself, and Cheeeech is right. Oils today are far better than yester-year. OW-30 means the oil flows better in cold weather than a 10W-30. Once they warm up, they're nearly identical. I should have the AMSOIL flavors I'm running in my signature...

0-30 is their best stuff. supposedly good for up to 25,000 miles. i dont go that long though. i use the 5-30 XL and change every 6 months or 5-6000 miles cause its cheaper. same stuff in my boat with a chevy 305. its rated for 7500 mi. those numbers are only with their filter, which is well worth the extra few bucks in my opinion. I think the MDS engines call for the 5-20 if im not mistaken. I was an amsoil customer, and now im a dealer as well lol.

I do not mind paying the extra dollar, would you suggest the 0w-20?

yes sir, thats what i would go with, its what amsoil calls for on your truck. good for 1 year or 15,000 miles, or 25,000 miles as they claim under "normal or light" driving conditions.
