If properly installed you should not get any "whistling" noises, but most people will report hearing the flutter of the EGR valve operating.
Mine is REALLY loud, because I have a metal tube intake which exacerbates the issue. I've gotten used to it and only really hear it when others point it out anymore...

You can really only hear mine at WOT but normal driving it isn't really noticable. Whats annoying me now is I have something in my dash rattling around when I really get on it....

I did have one really bad annoying whine in my truck the first year I had it, coming from up around the passenger seat, but I got divorced and it took care of the issue...

HA HA HA good call hammer!!! I kept blowing speakers trying to block out the same whining noise from passenger seat. Divorce has saved me money on speakers!

You had one of those noises too? Did it keep telling you how you weren't driving right and what you were doing wrong everytime you drove somewhere? Not to sure how to get rid of that problem since I have no need to divorce it...

One of the points of buying an air intake is to make the truck louder

Mine is surprisingly quiet, considering I have the intake and LT Headers. The only thing really interferes with a normal conversation or the stereo on low volume is an annoying drone from my Flowmaster 50HD muffler, but that's only in about a 400 rpm bandwidth window from like 1800-2200 rpm...
