how many hours to assemble a hemi
Just curious if anyone knows on average how many hours there are needed to assemble a hemi engine. Im talking from taking a short block and putting everything on it, so its ready to drop in an engine bay. Thanks
The answer to this question could range from 2 hours to 2 months. It all depends on your resources, whose building it, how many things go wrong, etc..
It's like me asking you how many times you will fill your truck up this year

If you had some help, some mechanical know how and all the parts the hemi could be a weekend job. If you had none of the above, a few weeks.
me and 3 other guys used to be able to put together a honda 2L in 12 minutes (with some practice of course), without alternator and starter.
haha thanks for the input guys. My motor is at a repair shop in town. He has had it for 5 WEEEEKS!! im getting a little annoyed with his stories, its supposed to be done tommrow so i just want an idea of what a reasonable rebuild time woudl be. He had a brand new short block, he is an engine rebuilder, so should have all the tools and resources to put it together..... i dont want him charging me for 150 hours of work when really it only should be like 15 - 20 hours.
5 weeks is absurd, but he shouldn't charge you for all the hours. He has obviously not been working on it the whole time (if he has, then he's not going to be in business long since nobody will ever go to him), and you were not a priority to him so he probably kept putting it on the back burner.

Most custom engine builds take 1-2weeks off season and 4-6weeks prime. That's just how it is.
You could have just bought a new shortblock and had the do the rest. i would say labor costs should not be more than $1200 granted your not getting CNC ported heads...etc More like $750 is reasonable for a complete assembly plus hot tanking it process and hone which runs like $150

ya i think he just hasnt worked on it alot, he quoted me parts and labour, new short block, timing set, gaskets, bolts, oil pump, heads cleaned up, valve springs changed, retainers changed, all that for 5000 bucks canadian. Im really kicking myself for not just taking the heads to get done and assembling it myself. Grrrr cant believe i didnt do it myself.
