Driver would def have to hear it.. Possible the truck drove right under the trailer and the back wheels chopped the side of it off as the tires rode into it.

I did hit one car before going around a turn, just to see what would happen(donated car already cut into by Vol. Firefighters) I didn't feel the truck budge at all and I was going about 18-20mph. I was driving a 2007 Freightliner Daycab Tandem axles and had a 53' Ryder rental trailer behind me...lol The trailer bumper didn't even bend at all. the car was literally destroyed. I peeled the whole back corner off.
I'm willing to bet the truck driver was cruising right along and did feel like he hit something in the road but didn't want to stop and see what it was because he was at fault??? A flat tire blow-out is roughly 100x's the impact on a truck/trailer sway than a car hitting the trailer. Just to give you an idea.

Terrible that has to happen. How could you not see yellow in the dark?

Bad deal for that poor guy!! Not many salvageable parts left on the truck either except maybe the tailgate.
