Hi All,

I have an ’09 Ram 2500 which as I understand is actually a 3rd Gen Truck. My question concerns the tailgate latch. There are numerous topics over on the 4th gen forum but I don’t think they apply to me. I have done a search here but haven’t really been able to answer this question. So here goes.

Does Dodge make a locking tailgate latch for the 2500, either power or manual? Have they ever made one, in other words is there a previous year locking latch that will work? Has anyone ever seen a factory locking tailgate latch? Yes, I know that PE and several other after market suppliers make locks.

Just a guess but I haven't seen a 3rd gen with a factory lock....factory crap is overrated and over priced anyway.

but the question is is the tailgate handles the same being its an 09 not a 08? just a ?

 

09 2500's have the 3rd gen body....I believe the hemi engine is the updated 09 model though.

That is the question. I know the tail gate does not have the flair at the top like the ’09 1500s do, they being 4th gen. When I ask about a locking latch for the 09 2500 at the dealer they just scratch their head, it doesn’t mention it in the parts book. I guess if I could find a dealer who had an ’08 latch I could pull mine and compare. Hence my original question, were there any locking latches for the earlier models?

I'm pretty sure the 2009 2500 and 3500 are still a 3rd gen, meaning all body parts. They usually take a year to get the HD trucks caught up to the 1500's.
