Does this generally yield a 2 MPG improvement in city mpg? hwy mpg? or both? I could really use a 2 MPG increase in city mileage for a $25 junk yard investment.
The other think on my mind is reliability vs. the engine driven fan. There's really no way you could run the engine without the fan in its current state unless there was some painfully obvious catastrophic failure. The same can't be said for the electric fan. I'm sure I would notice my engine temp climbing and check things out if I was driving but I couldn't be as sure about that if the wife was driving.

Ive never had issues with mine. I did burn up a controller once but that was my fault for trying to push it too much.
However, I do have a backup fan stored away in case the motor one day fails.
But one of the things I do with both my fan and air compressor is install an LED in line on the (+) side and have it in the dash on my switch panel. This way when it comes on I can "see" it is running and when it is not.

These fans pull a lot of amperage at startup. i did this on a jeep and used a 100 amp constant duty silonoid (60 bucks) off my thermostatic switch...
i never thought to do this on my truck though... what are the downsides? I need to replace the rad so i might as well do this while the shroud is out.

I'm new to the forum but I can offer this.... I just did the e-fan upgrade and the Thermostatic Fan Control I used looks just like Deniss66's. My control was bought from Advace Auto Parts for 31.00. It is made by Hayden Automotive out of Corona California and it is part #226204. It works like a champ with no toggle. I hooked it up to the A/C clutch hot wire and I use the provided thermo insert in the radiator. I bought my fan off Ebay for 47.00 and it is a 2 speed fan for a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. I only use the low speed of the fan for now, I'll find out come summer if I need the high side. Other fuel saving mods were a taneu cover and I seen about 2.5-3.0 MPG on the highway. Just had duel exhaust put on today so don't know for sure about that yet and I will recieve my Volant CAI (Cold Air Intake) on 12/11/2012. I hope this helped and will try to keep you all posted. Any questions about my e-fan install don't hesitate to ask. I have a video I am uploading to YouTube that I took of the e-fan install. It should be up Monday 12/10/2012.
