Default Deciding on a stereo

Hey guys.
I am having issues. Part of me wants to get a normal stereo, The rest of me wants to get something fancy.

First I thought I wanted something with hard drive to dump mp3's on, Then I realized, Its just as easy to get an Ipod and use the usb on a stereo.

Then I thought, One of these fancy stereos with Wifi, I realized, Why? If I use the ipod attachment, No need for the WIFI.

Though I do like the idea of tail gate reverse camera, So whatever I get needs a screen, Although I don't like motorized screens.

Not sure if I Need a GPS, Though. I do want Bluetooth, So that I can hook up my phone w/ gps thru the speakers

Another issue I have, My ipod has some 3,000 songs on it, Browsing thru the media on the ipod thru the stereo could be dangerous, Anyone out there heard of a stereo that can speak the song/album names? You know, So I can use remote and not take my eyes off the road..

Another feature that would be really cool, But I have never seen, Car stereo capable of dvd and dts surround sound.

What do you have? Why do you like it? Is there something different that you like better?

Any help in deciding would be absolutely awesome.

audio section is a ghost town. you wont get an answer from there for weeks. I'm a big fan of CD players but alot of people like the ipod hookup too. Only con with ipod is finding the damn song on the thing while ur driving! Also if you have an 05 ram with the infinity system get it professionaly done it turns into a nightmare with the stock amp.

I have been doing some looking. There are Sooooo many options, With such a wide variety of prices, It makes my head spin....

My basic alpine unit in my car has a Front Usb port, rear usb port which is occupied by the bluetooth plug, and aux in. The cool thing is that I can take a USB stick and play the mp3's off it from the front. But no screen.

I would really like to find something capable of text to speech on the menus and/or voice command. But I have yet to find the text speech option. I think I may just end up going with a cheap double din video unit.

I don't have an infinity system or even an alarm.

My Pioneer AVIC has voice command, bluetooth, internal hard drive, excellent GPS, IPOD, SAT and everything else you can think of. The ONLY thing I can think of that it does not have is a USB port but being I have an Xbox 360 in the truck I can plus a USB stick into it if I wanted to. But between an IPOD connection and all that internal hard drive space, I really dont need it. It is also capable of doing 5.1 and DTS but it requires an add-on processor. Ill be honest and say that HU was my most expensive purchase on my system but IMO, well worth it and I do love it. Its a $2250 HU new. I got mine for $560 plus I spent another $100 for the bigger hard drive and firmware/map updates.

The rest of my system (and everything else) in is my signature.

I have the Pioneer Avic Navi and it has an SD card slot for pics or music. i have 90 cd's of music on 1 8gb sd card. No need for cd changers! It also has ipod hookups and makes the entire touch screen like a giant ipod. it's awesome. it laso has a usb cable if you wanted to use memory stick for music too. it has auto bluetooth and navigation. it's last years model now, but i still love it. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...VIC-F90BT.html Amazing how I paid $749 last year this time. Then just 2 months ago it was down to $649 and now that the newer versions come out($1100+), the price goes back up. That's BS. Still worth it compared to other models for the features and it has 4v pre-outs compared to 2v's on most.

I put a Peripheral Ipod adapter on my factory RAQ Head unit it allows you to control your I pod from your steering wheel, only volume, track or playlist controls, but you can't search the whole library like you can with the Ipod wheel,I have an 80gig Ipod Classic and it will hold a blue million songs so what I did was just organize some playlists of my most popular stuff that is easy to skip around on with the steering wheel controls. I just kept the Factory head unit because the previous owner paid for the lifetime Sattlite subscription, otherwise I would have went with a pioneer too. I have always had great luck with Pioneer products.

Here is a link to the peripheral adapter I was talking about, you can find them cheaper than this but this is just what a quick google turned up....http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=885

As some others were saying I HIGHLY recommend the Pioneer AVIC. as for the door speakers, Go with the Polk db series, or Mobile Monitor Series seperates. Polk's have a very clean sound and also really good power handling. If your looking for subs, if you want lots of bass, go with some Polk, Kicker, or JL 12's, in a ported box. If you want a more rounded sound, then go with one 10" or 2 8" subs in a tuned and ported box. I recently installed one polk 8" sub into the cab of a Crew cab f250 superduty, and it sounded very good. Not too much bass at all. Please dont use a probox, or any other pre-fab boxes. Go to a stereo shop and have a box built. it will be a little more expensive, but well worth it. You could also build your own!! It's not that hard at all, but if you need help or have questions, PM me, ill be glad to help. For an amp, theres a company called Powerbass, that makes good amps. theyre big on the west coast, but are coming out to the rest of the nation now, also, orion came back out with their HCCA series amps that were the **** back in the late 80's-early90's.

If you have any more questions about audio, feel free to PM me, Ive been into audio forever, and have been installing for 5 years now.
