Smile DIY intakes?

Now Ive seen alot of people do there own intakes and a couple have done dual intakes one on each side of the engine compartment. Are there any benefits from having dual intakes besides the fact that it looks sweet? Is PVC a top choice when doing your own intake? What size pvc and how do i go about painting it?

I used 4" PVC, glued it all together and ruffed it up with some 200grit sandpaper and used the spray paint that is made for plastic. just make sure the plastic is clean. I used rubbing alcohol to clean before and after sanding and it turnned out great! I made a bracket to support.

My opinion on the dual intake is that its useless unless you actualy extend it down on both sides where it sucks cool air. The ones that are really short suck hot air from the bottom side of the hood. I put mine where cold air comes in behind the headlight and made an air deflector to force air in there....

Did you have to buy that rubber expander boot that comes off of the throttle body or is that stock below the Hemi Hat?

Yeah, I've definitely seen them there, Pep Boys and other part stores sell them too. So the stock throttle body piping is 3"? I installed a Volant CAI the other day and want to dump the hemi hat, so I need to know what size boot to get.

Buy the 3" boot, and clamp it on, thats what I did when modifying mine. My afe high breather set up didn't remove the hemi hat either, so I picked up an MIT tube dirt cheap and modified it to fit together. Just have a little patience snce you are doing something similar to what I did and things dont like to line up right the first dozen times or so when modifying pieces.

You can see it hooked into the elbow coming off the throttle body. With blue wires.
