Well the cost of most cat-back kits from what I have seen is as much as going to an exhaust shop and getting everything custom. The shop I went to said he would do a true dual for $400. I got the stock y-pipe cut out and had him run the the 2 pipes off the cats into a dual in single out magnaflow for $280 out the door. I don't know how much your parents are giving you b/c that will really be the determining factor in what you can get, unless you have some cash to help get something better.
I'm not sure yet how generous they plan on being yet. lol I will find out. I can always add to what they are willing to "gift" me.
I have a cousin who can do a setup like my dad's custom. $320. It's the cat back. Y pipe, twin exhaust. Or I can buy a kit...decisions decisions!
I went true dual with "X" pipe. My buddy has an 05 with a flowmaster it sounds good. My magnaflows are starting to get broken in and are deep low rumble I love it. If i want loud I just open the cutouts ; )
You could always go with an exhaust cutout. Then you can have it loud when you want and quiet when you want. Personally, it is my favorite exhaust setup that I have run to date.
Gotta go with the cutout, cheap easy way to give you the best sound and be able to turn it off when you dont want it. Absolutely nothing ricey about the sound of semi-straight headers...
The cutout would be good also. I live in the country but still have "neighbors" on my road. They may not appreciate me rumbling by at 2am. lol Crazy redneck farmers...

I am sure that they would be fine with it, I know my neighbors love it when I forget to close the cutout when I am pulling in or out late at night .
What parts are you thinking of getting? Amazon has good prices on magnaflow mufflers w/ free shipping on a lot of them and moesperformance.com sells cutouts.
