Torque Wrench for Lugs
It's not so much as worrying about damaging your rotors, as it is stripping a stud out. So in answer to your question, you DO need to get a torque wrench to set it right. IMO a good set of torque wrenches is a must have in every tool chest.

I think Crapsman Torque sticks go up to 15ft/lbs. Plenty for Everything a backyard mechanic would need. Anything more and you'd wanna seek some help. SOme wheel bearings need like 240ish ft/lbs. My Mustang did. I just went on feel..lol
Anyways, on aluminum wheels ALWAYS torque to specs. 135? i just did mine at 110.
My trailer has aluminum wheels that i didn't torque because I was in a rush. i was hearing a clunk when I hit the brakes or going around turns. My wheel was so freakin loose. OMG. Torque ALuminum wheels. Triple check and go back and check in 100miles for any looseness that may have occured.
