Default Why Does My 4x4 NOT Work?

Welp, went to the beach today in Galveston and went to Crystal Beach and went to engage my 4x4 and the shifter moves totally free in its box on the floor. I tried it in all gears and nothing, the shifter just moves back and forth freely and will not go into 4x4. My truck is an 02 5.9L Any ideas what this could be and how much to fix it? Thanks for any help!

OK HOw do I check the linkage and/or put it back on? How could it have come off? I dont do any off roading really and havent had any major bumps. Is this something I can do myself or have to have it done? Mind you, I know next to nothing when it comes tho stuff like this.

The manual 4x4 shift lever goes through the floor and connects to the transfer case with at least one bar/rod. They are held together with pins and clips.

Look under the truck where the shift lever goes through and it will be obvious.

The normal culprit is rust and vibration killing the pins and/or clips and the pieces coming apart.

SOB! I went under the truck and yep, the linkage is completely gone! Now I wonder where I can get a new one? Junkyard? Whats the actual name of the part cause I cant find it on the net so far using 4x4 linkage. It looks like it just bolts on and I can move the shfter myself under the truck if I HAD to I guess but thats ghetto! Anyway Im glad thats all it is! Thanks for the help!

Yup, check a salvage yard or a pick and pull. Pick and pull might be easier since you can just go get it and not look like an idiot trying to explain it to somebody

Also take a picture [ if you can ] of the linkage on the donor truck, it'll help when reinstalling it so you put it back the right way !
