My "I hate ford" rant (overheating with elec fan)
^ +1 Not needed. It has a high speed because the Taurus A/C condenser is in front of the radiator and needs high speed for the a/c.
It only runs low speed when it cycles on and off to keep the engine cool. High speed when the a/c is on. Since your condenser has it's own fan, no need for high.

with that kind of persuasion who can argue? haha thanks for all the GREAT info guys (as usual). I'll put in the new radiator and leave the fan on low (less work for me anyway

Still on the road so sending this from the BlackBerry. Finally got it all fixed. The initial problem was the elec fan fried so fixed that with a brand new one. Then I posted about still overheating. Replaced the radiator with a brand new one and that didn't fix it. Turns out it was a sticking tstat (the brand new 180 tstat). Tore it apart and put in the factory one. That fixed it. Hit the road and stopped on the way out of town to fill up. Looked down and the ground is covered in antifreeze. Moral of THIS part of the story, remove the old tstat gasket before putting in the new one!
Yep rule of thumb #1 when you are overheating. Yank the thermostat out and drop it in a pot of boiling water, if it opens it's good and if it don't, it's FUBAR!!!
At least when it's the thermostat it's a cheap fix.
What brand of thermostat? I know my JET 180* has a Lifetime Warranty...

I guess it would have been better if we told you to try that before the new radiator. Sorry you had to spend so much money and time on what could a been a pretty simple fix.
I dunno about down south but up here if I was towing 10g's. Which is in the neighbourhood of a long ton over the 1500's towing capacity. And something untoward happened... say an accident of any sort. The Insurance Co. would just say T.S. to you you were towing over capacity! Of course if the cops didn't record the weight of load or whatever how would the Insurance Co. know? I dunno, I know I wouldn't tow over rating because of this...
