Man, I wish I was buying a nice hemi ram when I was 16. My first truck was a Ford Bronco, not a bad ride but rusted like nothhing else. If I was the OP I would look for a good, low mileage 03-05 (which would be less than the 17,000) and use the rest of the 17 grand to putting some mods on the new truck.

this was my first truck. had it before my license. you will be smiling on the outside but crying on the inside.
all my money went into fuel throughout my years and still does today.
if i were u i would get a smaller car with 5 spd that way u can actually drive it and go places like your friends probabily do in their econ box. then when possible get the ram next as a "ballin whip" and still keep the car for commuting

BTW i know your young with many young friends who dont drive or have a car and your looking for a fast and cool looking ride but try not to get the regular cab unless you have a car with a backseat on the side that u can use.

I don't doubt you guys are all fine hard workin american boys and I'm glad you are fortunate enough to be able to have such nice trucks at such a young age! I'm just saying most of us didn't have it quite so good that's all, that doesn't mean we weren't workin' hard too, it just means our money had to go other places out of necessity. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers,I was just making an observation.

Here all these young folks are wantin to buy Dodge Ram's cuz they're cool.... I'm buying one cuz I thought I was too old for "cool" and needed practical! lol.

1st car was an 83 Trans-Am which I planted a 327 in., 2nd car was 83 Olds Cutlass Supreme which I planted a 350 4 bolt main in.... 3rd car was MY FAVORITE (And the truck in my avatar picture) a 1991 Dodge Dakota which originally had a 318 in er'.... well.... When I painted her like "The General Lee" I figured she deserved a new heart and built a 340 for it. My current car is a Chrysler 300 with a 3.5 L (slowest vehicle I've ever owned) and I HATE it! Unfortunately it's a long weekend now so I will have to wait until probably wed or thurs to turn in the keys to the 300 and pick up the keys for the 06' TRX4 HEMI. QC.

I see many of you telling the youngsters to "be careful".... makes me anxious to put the RAM to the boards and see what it is you're all talking about.

It's not gonna scare a seasoned vet,but its plenty of power for a new driver, and alot of truck to smash into somebody with.

Welcome to the forum, I think everyone is steering you in the right direction. I got my 06 QCSB Hemi Ram for 17,900 with 45k on the odometer. The guy gave us a sweet deal on our trade in so I financed like $12,500 or something like that.

HEY OP --

WELCOME TO DF -- We will help you spend your money, and tell you where to spend it!!

Getting pulled over/tickets are lots of money, and depending on which state you live in graduated licenses are also a trap if you aren't careful...

Best of luck, I'm shopping for an 06-08 but I will have the money to play with, so I'm echoing everything that the boys are telling ya - 03-05 would be a good buy for ya on a 1st truck...
$450 for a 74 Dodge Dart Sport (Demon without the Demon name) with a freshly rebuilt 318 and no quarter panels! (in 1991)
