Default thinking about a new cam

so i'm thinking of getting a bigger cam for the rig, but i'd like to know the pros and cons of doing this. the only pro i know of would be the kickass rough idle at redlights, hahaha. can someone enlighten me?

Only cons I can really think off would be overall cost since depending on how big of cam you go, you will need to do some upgrades to take advantage of it and tame it. Other than that I guess would be the engine waranty if you still have one.

I posted something on the 3rd gen dakota forum, but figured I'd post here as well. It appears that Dodge has stopped production of their HO cams, and Comp Cams has followed suit for all of their 4.7 cams. A bunch of us on another board are trying to convince Comp to start making their cams again. Yeah okay, even their 206s don't provide as much bottom end as the HOs, but at least it's something.

To help out, please go to the Comp Cams site, move your cursor over Tech pages, Online cam help, and click on Contact us. On the page that shows up, click on the feedback link and let them know that there is a market for 4.7 cams. You can also get there by going to www.airram.com and clicking on the Comp cams banner at the bottom of the page, and then again on the next page that comes up. That'll bring you right to the feed back form.

With a 4.7 you would require two cams. Some cams such as the HO ones are pretty much plug and play. The more aggressive you go, the more support components would need to be upgraded as well, not to mention custom tuning.

There are getting to be fewer choices out there, since Mopar and Comp I guess have stopped production. Crane is history, and the very highly rated KRC cams were custom grinds Marty designed and had built by Crane, so you can't get his right now either...
