RE: Best MPH for gas milage
You said it right there, you have a quad cab and a 4x4, your chances of getting 18-19 like me are going to be slim to none unless your going downhill the whole way or got a 100 mph tailwind or even being towed. Your truck is like 300+lbs heavier(or more since its a Laramie) than my SLT SC and thats not including the 4wd drivetrain... the only way that I manage to get 18-19 is when I fill up just before getting on the freeway, drive all the way to Austin, stop there at my aunt and grandpa's house, then turn around and come right back to Arlington. Its about a 400 miles trip and I can make it there and back on one tank and still have enough gas to drive around town for another 40 miles or so of in-town driving before having to fill up again.

I drove to Dallas a month after I got my truck with around 2500 miles on the odometer and my average speed was around 75 MPH, and I average 19.2 MPG. My truck is in my avatar.

Same reason I didnt go with the bigger engine. I average around 14 MPG or so, its quite sad.

when you guy's post your mileage how about telling us what engine you have. I have an 04 4x4 quad 4 Hemi. Last weekend we drove 244.5 miles driving down to Va. we got 17.1 going down, mostly on the interstate ,coming back with a lot of stop and go traffic in Va. we got 15. 8 This is very important. Make sure all your tires are pumped up to at least 35 lbs. I go to 38. lbs cold. The dealers like them to be at 28 lbs. so the truck rides better.

only thing I can say is that maybe with the bigger truck a smaller displacement and less powerful engine would have to work a bit harder to get it moving, thereby using more fuel...

I know that I had a '96 SLT single cab sport with the 318 and my step father's '98 x-cab with a 360 still got better mileage than I did, even though his truck was bigger and heavier.
