Default motor oil

Hi i am new here and i just bought a 04 ram1500 and i was wondering what wieght oil to use i put 10/40 wieght is that ok.

Use what ever is recommended by the factory for the engine. BTW what engine are we talking about??HEMI, 4.7?? If its the Hemi the 5w20 is recommended and thats what I run. The recommended weight should be in the Owners manual or if you don't have one then it should be on the oil cap.

Sorry it is a 5.7 hemi and the oil cap says 5-30 wieght

Yep, none-MDS Hemis want 5w-30. I use Hi-Mileage Pennzoil in mine.

Well I have an 05 non MDS and my buddy has a 04 non MDS, both Hemis and both call for 5w20. But I would run what ever the oil cap says or the Owners manual.

what about a 08 hemi that came with MDS but now is dissabled can i run whatever i want???? wanna run 5-20

My 04 with Non MDS also and I THINK my caps says 5-20 also although I know I have ran 5-30 when I couldnt find RP in 5-20

Do you guys use reg oil or sysnt? I put what the cap says on 04 ram1500 5.7 which is 5/30 wieght but i hear a ticking is this normal i only have around 48,000 miles on it.

I run 10-30 pennz plat with mds off....I prefer 30 weight and it doesn't get cold enough here for 5.

Sounds like the hemi tick, search around it's pretty common and not a sign of a problem. Some say royal purple helps w/ the hemi tick but it's kinda pricey, pennzoil platinum is also an excellent choice for synthetic.
