Default Erratic Outside temperature reading

Every once in awhile (maybe once a week) when I turn on the ignition of my 2006 Ram 1500 the outside temperature display, in the center and above the front windshield, displays a reading of -40 F. Pressing the different buttons have no affect. If I turn the ignition off, and then on again the readings are normal. Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

Thanks

My '06 does the exact same thing... I just never got concerned about it, I use the good old "weather rock" system

My 04 does it too, though it doesn't go as low as -40...it just gives an inaccurate reading. I ignore it and it corrects itself after a little bit. Never worried about it though.

Same here, my display doesn't do that, but thanks to "global warming", we just had the coolest July in over 130 years. Not one day over 90* all month.

Someone needs to a Ram up Al Gores behind!! The earth's temp hasn't changes since 2002.

I believe there is a tech bulletin on this and a computer "Flash" to correct it. My '06 1500 was doing the same thing when I first got it. It would also do it if I reset things after a fuel-up. So, I would say check with your dealer; they can take care of this - it is a Known issue.

Good idea. Seems that everything, including the radio, is controlled by the computer.
