Default How accurate is the MPG display?

I have a 2006 Ram 1500 (I bought it used about a month ago). The MPG display in the console above the windshield had some surprising readings when I checked it one day last week. I watched it for about 45 minutes while driving and the readout ranged between 19 and 20.5 MPG. Could that really be an accurate reading?

Thanks

I reset mine one night on the interstate -- going downhill I was getting 99.9 mpg. Too bad not all my trips are downhill. Otherwise, the computer is probably 10%-20% optimistic. There is only one way to accurately calculate fuel mileage.
